An Extractor mines resources from deposits on the ground. Extractors mine only the resource directly beneath them, at a rate of 15 resources per year regardless of the resource type. Mined resources will be deposited on the Extractor's tile until full at a stack of 3, or until picked up by a nearby  Depot.

Once the resource deposit is exhausted, the Extractor will stop producing, the deposit on the ground will be gone, and the Extractor will no longer be animated.
